Jackals win game four in extra innings to take series
LITTLE FALLS, New Jersey – The Rockland Boulders fell in extra innings 3-2 against the New Jersey Jackals on Monday night in Can-Am League action.
In the bottom of the tenth, Boulders’ relief pitcher Kyle Wilson walked in the game-winning run as the Jackals loaded the bases on one hit and two walks.
New Jersey registered the game’s first run in the bottom of the second on a RBI ground out from Leonard Davis that plated Chris White from third base. Davis produced another RBI, this time it was a solo home run, his first of the year, to put the Jackals up 2-0 after three.
Rockland tied the game in the top of the seventh, with three straight hits, capped off by an RBI single from the current Can-Am League Batter of the Week, Sean Smith. Vic Buttler, who appeared in only his second game tonight, brought in Ryan Mollica from third on a RBI triple to deep center field. Jackals’ starter, James Leverton, had a quality start for New Jersey, striking out seven while holding the Boulders to no runs on five hits before being chased from the game.
In the bottom of the eighth the Jackals loaded the bases, which ended the night for Rockland starter Bobby Blevins who struck out three over seven innings, and threatened to take the lead with the game gridlocked at 2-2. Boulders manager Dave LaPoint went to his bullpen and brought in closer Adrian Martin to try and get three outs. Designated-hitter Mike Jones stepped in and shot a ground ball to the third baseman Mollica, who stepped on the bag at third and threw out Argenis Reyes at home for the double play. Martin then forced Jeremy Slayden to ground into a fielder’s choice to end the threat.
The Boulders, however, left two men on in the top of tenth as Tommy Giles was in scoring position at second. Wilson is charged with his second loss of the season, while New Jersey’s Phil Bartleski picked up his first win of the year throwing 2/3 of an inning.
Rockland has three days off before heading up north to take on the Quebec Capitales in a three game series that begins on Friday at 7:35 PM. Boulders single-game tickets are on sale by calling 845-364-0009, or slide to www.rocklandboulders.com
