HEAL (Hospice Equine Assisted Loss) Therapy Program

What:       HEAL (Hospice Equine Assisted Loss) Therapy Program, a collaboration between United Hospice of Rockland's Healing Hearts program and Life's Journey Equine Therapy.

The program is open to children, ages 7-18, who have participated in UHR’s Healing Hearts program,

After its initial success in last year, HEAL is offering its second1-day program including activities such as horseback riding, grooming, roundpen activities, team leading, and nature hikes.

When:    Saturday, June 25th
             9:00 AM to 1:00 PM
Rain or shine (There is an indoor track)

Where:   Ramapo Equestrian Center, 1152 US-202
               Suffern, NY 10901

Why:       The HEAL program is based on the belief that horses can be valuable partners in the healing process, facilitating communication that may not take place any other way.  Time spent with horses and at the stable will provide unique opportunities for relaxation, the sharing of feelings, and the time to ask questions of Healing Heart's bereavement counselors.  Interacting with the horses can aid children in regaining a sense on control, one step at a time.  Horses are used because they are sensitive to their environment and can act as a mirror to our feelings.  For some, their sheer size can be a true representation of the grief that is felt by the child.

HEAL is supported through the generosity of the Skyline Agility Club.
