Between April 20, 2010 and May 2, 2010, Delacruz while employed as a sales associate at P.C. Richard and Son in Nanuet, stole several high-priced electronic items, including a Hewlett- Packard notebook computer, a 40-inch Samsung television and a Frigidaire air conditioner.
The defendant came under scrutiny by store security after the P.C. Richard inventory control manager noticed a discrepancy between sales records, open orders and the in-stock supply of a specific HP laptop.
A subsequent review of surveillance video footage by store security showed Delacruz removing the computer from a secure location, hiding it in the showroom for several hours, and then leaving the store - with the item in a bag - without paying for it.
Further review of in-store surveillance footage captured the defendant stealing additional bigticket merchandise on other days in April and May.
On each occasion, Delacruz was working his regular shift, and was seen walking from the store with an unknown man.
The total loss to P.C. Richard and Son was in excess of $1,000.
On June 8, 2011, testimony commenced before the Honorable William K. Nelson. On June 13, shortly after closing arguments, the court returned a verdict of guilty on the sole count of the indictment.
Delacruz is considered a predicate felon. He faces up to four years in state prison when he is sentenced on September 27, 2011.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Nabeela McLeod.
