New City, NY (June 1st, 2011) – Legislator Ed Day (New City-Pomona) today invited residents to support in the 3rd Annual Kids Run 2! event being held on Saturday, June 11th at Rockand Lake State Park.
The event, hosted by the Clarkstown Council of PTA's and Nyack School District PTA's, provides families in both districts and the surrounding communities with the opportunity to share a fun filled day of fitness, camaraderie, and healthy information. It is also billed as a “fun fundraising event”, where support is sought from local businesses by way of donations and/or grants, particularly those companies who share like-minded views on the important role of health and fitness for the children of the community.
“Our children learning how to become healthy and fit at a young age is so critical to their overall development”, said Legislator Day, who also has been a long time youth coach and advocate for youth issues in the community. “The fact is that when our young people learn to respect their body, they not only avoid many problems later in life, they also markedly increase their chances of being healthy adults.”
Kids Run 2! hit the ground running in its inaugural year (2009) with over 900 participants. The last two years saw the addition of two more schools and the number swell to over 1300 participants.
Contributions benefit the sixteen participant Clarkstown Council of PTA's and Nyack School District PTA's and ultimately the students and families of our community. PTA’s are tax exempt non profit organization.
“As one who was honored with an Honorary PTA Life Membership Award, I could not be more proud that to help further the mission of this event”, said Legislator Day, adding that the event is “an opportunity for all to provide a path of health and success for the children of our community.”
While registration is now closed for participating in the run/walk, people are not only encouraged to come and see the excitement surrounding the event, but also consider advancing personal and business sponsorship opportunities. The festivities commence at 8:30 AM, and access to the Rockland Lake #1 parking lot is free only upon arrival prior to 8AM. Featured is a Health and Fitness Clinic from 8-11 AM with the 2 mile Fun Run Walk at 9 AM.
