Can-Am League Update July 6,2011

Brockton 1, New York 0
Brockton starting pitcher Julian Sampson pitched eight scoreless innings as the Rox edged the New York Federals 1-0. Sampson scattered four hits, fanned five batters in the game and was credited with the win, improving his record to 3-2 on the season. Brockton scored the game’s only run in their first at-bat. In the bottom of the first, CF Chris Valencia reached on a leadoff single. Valencia then came around to score on 1B Trey Hernandez’s two-out RBI double. Rox reliever Francisco Cruceta worked a 1-2-3 ninth inning to earn the save. For Brockton, Valencia had three hits and DH Melvin Falu went one-for-three with a double. New York starting pitcher Jake Loye tossed eight strong innings, allowing just one run on seven hits in the loss.
Quebec 11, New Jersey 5
Quebec used a six-run second inning to overcome an early deficit and defeat the New Jersey Jackals 11-5. The Jackals scored four runs in the first inning on 1B Kris Sanchez’s grand slam to take an early lead. The Capitales countered in the bottom of the second with six runs to claim a 6-4 lead. In that inning, Quebec LF Robert Wagner hit a two-RBI double, CF Goefrey Tomlinson doubled in a run, RF Sebastien Boucher hit an RBI single and 1B Rene Leveret singled in a run to cap off the inning. After a shaky first inning, Quebec starting pitcher John Mariotti recovered, allowing just one more earned run on the night to earn the win. In all, Mariotti tossed five innings and allowed five runs on seven hits. For Quebec, Wagner collected three RBIs, and Boucher went 4-for-5 at the plate with two runs scored and two RBIs. Tomlinson had two hits and two RBIs in the game.
Worcester 6, Rockland 4
Tornadoes 2B Abraham Nunez and DH Nick Salotti each had two RBIs as Worcester defeated Rockland 6-4. Worcester had the edge in the early innings. Tornadoes 3B Mark Minicozzi singled in a run in the top of the first, and Nunez singled in a run in the second. Salotti smacked a two-run home run in the third inning to make it 4-1 Tornadoes through three innings played. The Boulders scored a run in the fourth inning and two runs in the fifth to cut Worcester’s lead to 5-4 but could get no closer than that. Nunez hit a solo homer in the sixth inning to give Worcester an insurance run and collect his second RBI of the game. Tornadoes CF Cameron Monger went 2-for-4 at the plate with an RBI. Worcester reliever Nick Serino was credited with the win and pitched one scoreless inning. For Rockland, CF Sean M. Smith doubled twice and scored two runs in a losing effort.
