This department received a number of calls from Sloatsburg residents reporting larcenies. The larcenies occurred over a three week period starting the end of June. To date there has been 25 reported larcenies. These larcenies include property stolen from parked cars as well as property stolen from the exterior of houses. In one case the basement of a house was entered and property removed. The larcenies occurred throughout the Village including but not limited to Johnsontown Rd, Academy Av, and Orange Tpk. A male juvenile has been arrested in connection with, at present, 11 of the incidents, including the basement. The juvenile has been referred to Rockland County Family Court. Had he been an adult he would have been charged with six felonies including burglary and grand larceny. Several items have been recovered. At present this department is attempting to identify the recovered property. The Ramapo Police is asking residents of Sloatsburg that have been victims and have not reported it to the police department to do so. Residents are also encouraged to safeguard their property by not leaving items outside and securing their vehicles and not leaving valuables in them.
The department is also investigating the possibility that another party in committing these types of crimes in the Village of Sloatsburg.
