New City, NY (July 20, 2011) – Chairwoman of the Rockland County Legislature Harriet Cornell spoke with NYS Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli to discuss the cash flow problems experienced by the county that are a result of the delay by the state to reimburse the county for mandated services.
Cornell explained that the lack of timely reimbursement creates a cascading effect. “The struggle to meet the county payroll each pay period for our diminished work force often means an inability to pay our contractors,” said Cornell. “Many are the contractors who provide the very services the state mandates us to provide. In turn, they are unable to meet their financial obligations.”
The Chairwoman sent a follow up email to the Comptroller and provided specific information on overdue vouchers. Cornell requested the Comptroller provide oversight to alleviate the log jam of overdue reimbursement and oversee future prompt payments.
