Special Memorial Service to Honor Korean War Veterans


Ramapo- Twenty-seven residents of Rockland County gave their lives while serving their country between June 1950 and July 1953, during the Korean War. A special granite memorial, the Korean War Monument, holds a plaque inscribed with each of their names, and is inscribed, “They gave their today for your tomorrow.”

The monument, located within the Gary Onderdonk Rockland Veterans Cemetery at RCC, is the site of an annual memorial service to honor veterans and remember those who gave their lives. The ceremony will be held on Sunday, July 24, at 2 pm, led by the Eagle Chapter of Korean War Veterans of Rockland County, and in cooperation with Rockland Community College. The monument was erected by the Eagle Chapter in 1993, after the group’s formation in 1992. Their current membership is approximately 170 veterans of the Korean War, with representation from all branches of the US armed service.
