Sex Offender Registries

The Dru Sjodin National Sex Offender Public Website (NSOPW) is a public service by the Department of Justice (DOJ). You may use this website to learn about the possible presence of sex offenders in your local community. For additional information, please view their answers to frequently asked questions.

Megan's Law (PDF document) allows states to disclose public information about convicted sex offenders. Each state may define the types of sex offenders who are required to register and regularly report to law enforcement. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) provides a list of state sex offender registry websites.
Because laws about how to register vary by state, sex offenders should contact a local law enforcement agency for this information. Also, some states require sex offenders to register with local law enforcement even if they are only visiting.

For more information, please visit the Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section of the DOJ's Criminal Division. If you require additional information or assistance, you may wish to contact an FBI field officein your area.
