In New Jersey, more children die by fire than any other childhood disease. Thirty percent of the children that die in fires start the fires that kill them. Without intervention, fire setting has an 81 percent chance of being repeated. With appropriate intervention fire setting behaviors can be virtually eliminated, with a recidivism rate of 99 percent.
Since its inception in 1987, the BCJFPP has helped over 2,000 juvenile firesetters overcome dangerous firesetting behaviors through counseling and fire safety education sessions. Over forty Bergen County firefighters volunteer their time to teach sessions and educate the youth about the inherent dangers and proper use of fire. These interventions prevent and reduce firesetting activity, and improve the quality of life for these children, their families, and the community at large.
Funds raised from this event will help ensure all children in need will receive these vital services. In addition, the program is in need of updated educational materials and supplies. Your attendance will enable the firefighters and Care Plus NJ to continue to make a difference with early intervention for youth displaying dangerous firesetting behaviors.
Tickets are available for $15 at www.mexicalilive.com. Sponsorship opportunities are also available, please call 201.986-5070.
