Pittsfield 9, Newark 5

Heading into the final inning tied with Newark, Pittsfield plated four runs in the top of the ninth to win 9-5. Colonials CF Jerod Edmondson had three hits in five at-bats in the game with a triple and three RBIs, including an RBI single in Pittsfield’s four-run ninth inning. The Bears took a 1-0 lead in the third inning on DH Eric McGee’s solo home run. Pittsfield took the lead with a five-run fifth inning, including a two-run homer hit by SS Matt Nandin. Newark scored two in the fifth and two in the sixth to tie the game 5-5. Pittsfield C Scott Knazek went 2-for-4 at the plate with two runs scored and an RBI, and 3B Johnny Welch and DH Quentin Davis each had one RBI. Along with Edmondson, Knazek and Davis each batted in a run in the pivotal four-run ninth inning. Colonials reliever Mike Zenko was credited with the win, tossing 2 1/3 scoreless innings while surrendering two hits. Newark SS Brandon Young had two hits in four at-bats and an RBI in a losing effort.

Brockton 5, New York 0

Brockton Rox starting pitcher Freddy Flores tossed seven scoreless innings, and the Rox added four insurance runs in the eighth inning to defeat New York 5-0. Flores struck out five hitters and scattered five hits. With the win, Flores improved his record to 3-1 this season. The Rox took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fifth when CF Chris Valencia singled in SS Dominic Ramos. Still clinging to a 1-0 lead, Brockton added four in the eighth inning as Ramos, 1B Trey Hernandez, LF Shawn Williams all batted in a run. Despite being the losing pitcher, New York starting pitcher Jake Loye pitched 6 1/3 innings without conceding an earned run while striking out five hitters.

Quebec 10, New Jersey 4

Quebec scored three runs in the first inning and two in the second en route to a 10-4 win against New Jersey. Capitales 1B Rene Leveret batted in a run in the first inning with a sacrifice fly, and LF Robert Wagner batted in two more with a two-RBI single later in the inning. In the second frame, RF Sebastien Boucher doubled in a run, and Leveret drove in Boucher with a single to make it 5-0 Quebec. Capitales 2B Seth Henry was 2-for-3 at the plate with three RBIs, and SS Jeff Helps had three hits in five at-bats and an RBI. Quebec starting pitcher Bryan Rembisz pitched six innings and was credited with the win; Rembisz allowed one run on seven hits and struck out three batters. Jackals C Myron Leslie went 3-for-5 at the plate with an RBI and a run scored in a losing effort.

Rockland 8, Worcester 6

Rockland scored two runs in the top of the ninth to defeat Worcester 8-6. Boulders 1B Cristobal Santana hit a two-RBI triple in the ninth in what proved to be the game-deciding hit. Santana had four hits in five at-bats in the game with three RBIs and two runs scored. Rockland CF Sean M. Smith went 3-for-5 with two RBIs and a run scored, and 2B Jermel Lomack had two hits in four at-bats with an RBI and a run scored. For the Worcester Tornadoes, RF Alex A. Nunez and 1B Chris Colabello each had two RBIs in a losing effort.

Rockland County District Attorneys Office: Robbery Indictments

Brad Smith was indicted on June 22, 2011 by a Rockland County Grand Jury for the crime of Robbery in the 1^st Degree.

District Attorney Thomas P. Zugibe stated that on or about May 31, 2011, at approximately 5:30 am, the victim while waiting for the bus to go to work, the defendant walked up to him, pushed him, grabbed his cellphone off his belt and ran.  The defendant saw police officer nearby and threw the phone away. An Officer observed the incident and placed the defendant under arrest.

Sesame Chicken Stir-Fry

Ingredients

• 1 boneless skinless chicken breast thinly sliced (approximately 1 cup cooked; 8 ounces raw)
• 2 tablespoons reduced sodium soy sauce or lite soy sauce
• 1 spray of cooking spray
• 1 tablespoon whole sesame seeds
• 1 - 2 teaspoons ginger powder
• 1/2 cup carrots cut into matchsticks
• 1/2 cup snow peas
• 1 8-ounce can sliced water chestnuts, with fluid
• 1/2 teaspoon toasted sesame oil
• 1 package Uncle Ben's Ready Rice Jasmine

Preparation

1. Marinate sliced chicken breast in lite soy sauce. Heat large pan or wok over high heat. When pan is hot, lightly coat with cooking spray and add the chicken and soy sauce.
2. Cook chicken for 1 to 2 minutes; add sesame seeds and ginger powder, stir to coat. Add carrots, snow peas, water chestnuts, including liquid, and toasted sesame oil.
3. Prepare rice according to package directions. Set aside.
4. Cook until vegetables are crisp tender. Add rice; toss to combine.

Order By the Appellate Division Second Department Affirms Conviction of Sloatsburg Sex Offender

Rockland County District Attorney Thomas P. Zugibe today announced that an appellate court has affirmed the conviction and sentence of Reynaldo Bregaudit (DOB 03/01/60) of 10 Hamilton Avenue, Sloatsburg, New York for:

• One count of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, a class “A” Misdemeanor
• Two counts of Sexual Abuse in the Third Degree, class “B” Misdemeanors

During the early morning hours of July 25, 2006, Bregaudit climbed into bed with his then 14-year-old niece, while naked from the waist down. The defendant removed the young victim’s shorts and underwear and sexually molested her.

The victim later disclosed the sexual abuse to an Aunt, who advised her mother and father, who ultimately contacted the Town of Haverstraw Police.

Following his conviction by a jury in August, 2009, the defendant admitted that he had been sexually abusing the child for three years. He was sentenced in October, 2009 to the maximum possible jail time for each crime.

In the Appellate Term, Second Department, Bregaudit claimed that the People took too much time to bring the case to trial, violating his speedy trial rights.

The court found the defendant could not prove that the delay harmed his ability to defend himself, and further that “the sensitive nature of the charges, which involve the sexual abuse of a child, and the fact that defendant was never incarcerated before trial, further weigh against finding a violation of defendant's constitutional rights.” The court also found that Bregaudit’s lawyer effectively represented him at the trial.

District Attorney Zugibe said, “This case demonstrates how a trusted relative can sometimes hurt those in their charge. When family members sexually abuse those closest to them, law enforcement must act to bring those perpetrators to justice.”

Executive Assistant District Attorney Itamar Yeger handled the matter in the appellate term.
